Dog fields are a great way to exercise your four-legged friends off lead in a safe space. Especially if you don’t have a big garden, dog fields are an affordable way to get your dogs exercised in a vast but protected area dedicated to you and your dogs.

Although we have a garden, it is small and doesn’t allow Gambá and Pequi to reach full speed for more than a few seconds. So we use dog fields to provide a different area for leisure and training of our girls.

These fields are mostly the same structure: a grass field and a shed or similar structure in a corner providing some shade. The differences come from how well kept they are and what else is there to offer, i.e. more options to dogs and their owners.

In this post series, I will attempt to provide a mini-review of the dog fields we visit, and the first one is Hagbourne Dog Field. This is a 1.5-acre brand new field founded in 2022.

The dog field in Oxfordshire, is located on a working farm, and every time we went there, we saw a couple of horses on the neighbouring field, and the dogs found it very exciting.

The area is fully closed, with a double gate entrance in between which you can safely leave your car. There is a big-sized shed providing shelter on colder or rainy days, and inside the shed, you will find a bench and poo bags and some information pages attached to the wall.

The outside area has a picnic table and a huge tractor tire adding another option for dog fun. Gambá absolutely loves jumping in and out of the tire. There is a row of trees/bushes separating a smaller patch of the field, and the dogs also found that interesting to explore. An apple tree was very full last time we went there, which adds some fun for both dogs and human owners.

Booking the field is pretty straightforward, and it costs £10 for 1 to 3 dogs at the time of writing. A minor criticism is that the booking website asks for the same information twice every time we book a slot, which is mildly irritating.

All in all, it is a great field, and the girls loved their time spent there.
